How to Stay Healthy Tips from a Physical Therapist

Contrary to what most people believe, there are people that schedule an annual check-up with their physical therapist to ensure that they stick with an overall health and wellness maintenance plan for staying healthy. When you visit a physical therapist to maintain health and wellness, the physical therapist will do a complete evaluation of your health level and then personalize a treatment plan. The plan includes rehab therapy for any problems that the physical therapist has located as well as a personalized plan for how to stay healthy and live a high quality of life.

Any physical therapist will tell you that patient education is an essential part of physical therapy. The education includes how to improve points in your body which exemplify weakness to prevent pain and injury in the future, maintain flexibility and muscle mass, practice a healthy diet, and much more. So if you pay a visit to a physical therapist here are some basic tips they will provide on how to stay healthy before they go into a detailed treatment plan with you.

Physical Therapy Evaluation

A physical therapist will recommend a complete evaluation so he/she can devise a treatment plan that will teach you how to stay healthy. The evaluation includes a complete review of your physical capabilities including extremity range of motion, spinal range of motion, cardiovascular and pulmonary, neurological function, assessment of your daily living activities, and much more. The physical therapist will then go through your health concerns with you in detail and then compile a plan to help you stay healthy.

General Recommendations for How to Stay Healthy

In addition to discussing your evaluation and treatment plan with you in detail, your physical therapist will also make the following general recommendations for how to stay healthy:

Water: Water flushes all of the toxins out of your system. A physical therapist will recommend that you sip on water throughout the entire day as opposed to taking it in all at once. This will help to keep your cells hydrated and your system free of toxin build up. If you wait until you are thirsty to drink water then you have waited too long.

Stretching and Exercise: It is very important to do stretching exercises on a daily basis to maintain mobility and flexibility. It also helps to prevent injury when you engage in exercise. You should stretch your hamstrings, chest muscles, and shoulders to maintain good posture and then exercise on a daily basis doing something you enjoy such as walking, riding your bike, or doing the gardening. Whatever it is make sure you engage in movement every day.

Eat Breakfast: You may have heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that is because it really is. In order to get a jumpstart on your day eat a breakfast that is high in protein with a ratio of 4 to 1 carbohydrates and protein. Avoid cereals that are high in sugar and high fructose corn syrup.

How To Live A Healthy Lifestyle And Enjoy Life

Living a healthy life style naturally calls for a healthy body, free from disease and illnesses. It also means that you enjoy a positive outlook about your life, the people in it, and the world.

A healthy lifestyle is one full of energy, without constant stress about aches and pains, and what tomorrow will bring. It’s about living in a healthy body, and enjoying the world around you.

Living a healthy lifestyle is built on these foundational steps:

Staying healthy calls for a healthy diet

A diet rich in fresh, whole foods is essential in a healthy lifestyle. When available, always choose foods found in its natural state. Fruits and vegetables have high vitamin and mineral content. Whole grains like quinoa and whole wheat bread should be consumed instead of less nutritious white varieties.

Vegetables need to make up 50-60% of your total intake of food each and every day. The more vegetables you eat, the less sugar and white flour you will crave and your immune system will help you fight off illness and give you all the energy you need.

Drink plenty of water. The old suggestion of 8 glasses as day is still what you need to keep every cell in your body healthy.

Exercise keeps your heart healthy and your body agile.

Just 30 minutes a day of movement can benefit your health by improving joint stability, increase your range of movement and flexibility, help prevent osteoporosis and fractures and improve your mood while reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Exercise doesn’t necessarily mean joining a gym. It can be simple things like turning off the TV for an hour and playing outdoors with your kids or taking your dog for a walk.

If you already exercise regular, add an extra lap in the pool, walk an extra turn around the block, do one more set of reps before quitting. Small increases can make a big difference.

Chores like shoveling snow, gardening, raking leaves or vacuuming and sweeping the floor are all considered a form of exercise.

Emotional Health makes all the pieces come together

Your emotional health plays a big part in a healthy lifestyle. Tune into your body to learn what causes you stress. Have a healthy social life by avoiding negative people and situations. Relaxation and meditation help release negative emotions. Listen to soothing music, meditate, breathe deep to help reduce stress.

A healthy lifestyle makes life full and large

In addition to an overall good feeling, a healthy lifestyle has many benefits. A healthy lifestyle makes life worth something to you. When you’re living conscious of your diet, sleep, exercise, and the other people you share the world with, life will take on a new and profound meaning.

A naturally healthy lifestyle can lead to a longer more productive life. You’ll feel less pain, ward off diseases and have energy like you did when you were young.

A Short Healthy Eating Guide For A Healthier Life

Eating healthy foods can help lengthen lifespans, decrease risk of chronic diseases and increase physical and mental well-being. Foods for healthy eating can be really delicious, and there are plenty of simple food recipes out there for a good, healthy diet. If you’ve got specific dietary condition, you should see a doctor for a healthy food list tailored to your needs. This healthy eating guide presumes no special dietary requirements.

Try to match your calorific intake to the energy you use. While the odd exception won’t be problematic, you can’t eat Christmas recipes every day. Normally women use about 2000 calories a day and men use 2500.

Healthy recipes use less saturated fats and more unsaturated fats. Roughly speaking, saturated fats are fairly solid at room temperature and unsaturated fats are liquid. Seeds and nuts are great for healthy nutrition party because they contain healthy oils: similarly oily fish can be a starting point for healthy, easy recipes.

For a good healthy diet try to eat complete proteins. Animal proteins are usually complete, but also contain a lot of saturated fats which people keeping healthy foods diets should avoid. To get complete proteins from plant sources pair a grain (such as rice, wheat or oats) with a pulse (such as beans, lentils or chickpeas). A more comprehensive healthy food list for pairing can easily be found in an online or print healthy food guide. This combo is so good it’s used in simple food recipes around the world, like Jamaican rice ‘n’ beans and Indian dal with rice. There are Middle Eastern healthy, easy recipes combining wheat (in couscous, bulgur and bread) and chickpeas (e.g. houmous, falafel) which make great diet foods for healthy eating.

A healthy foods diet avoids sugary foods and drinks. Even too much 100% fruit juice can be bad for you, because simple sugars are less healthy than carbohydrates like starch. Diet foods and healthy snacks tend to be low in sugar, so that can be a safer bet. Instead of processed foods, eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, which can be used in healthy, easy recipes from any good healthy food guide.

It doesn’t matter how many meals you eat a day: this differs between cultures and time periods. However, consistency is important to avoid feeling hungry and if hungry between meals eat healthy snacks. Avoid missing breakfast too, because slow-release energy helps get you through work or school.

Speaking of school, it can be hard keeping track of kids’ healthy nutrition. School dinners might not always use healthy recipes, but healthy kids’ snacks are out there. With a lunch-box and a healthy eating guide they’ll be eating healthy foods in no time.

Bring Water Ionizer Home To Stay Healthy

Water is an incredibly important aspect in our day to day lives. It helps in purification of the body, along with supplying us the much needed hydration that is good for our bones, skin and so much more. Water can be drunk from the tap, steams, or even appliances via a filter. To get the most out of your daily water habit, you might want to look into a water ionizer. AN ionizer introduced you to the same water you’ve been drinking for years, with additional nutrients that your body needs to function properly and in a healthy way.

A water ionizer works in a variety of different ways, but most importantly, it breaks down water so it can be easily absorbed into your body. The breakdown is done chemically through a variety of alkalies. When the water is broken down, you can absorb it into your system easier, thus be more hydrated and feel great. Regular water from the tap has some impurities and water from a purifier isn’t broken down for proper absorption. An ionizer gives you the best of both worlds as you have fresh, clean water that will properly be absorbed into your system. This will aid in any dehydration your body will face.

When choosing water ionizers, you will want to take careful consideration and do your research. You will want an ionizer that is reputable, affordable, and will last over numerous uses. It is a great investment to have, so putting more money into a better model may be a great investment. Water is necessary for our everyday lives, so it will be worth it to spend a little extra. How an ionizer works is that water is fed through the ionizer through filters that will remove impurities and other non-essentials. Water will then go through what is called electrolysis. This is the combination of positive and negative electrodes that will give a very low voltage of electricity. The water is then separated into acid and alkali components. The alkaline water will be what you drink to hydrate yourself.

When deciding between an appliance with a built in water filtration system, or getting a separate ionizer for your water, you may want to carefully consider the benefits and differences. A water ionizer is better for your overall health. It can also be much easier to maintain, and will be more cost efficient in the long run. A majority of our bodies are comprised of water and we are required to drink 8 glasses of water a day. Many of us, unfortunately, do not get that much water in our systems. Do yourself a favor and give your body the best kind of water when you do drink.

Medicare Advantage Will Get Hit With Health Care Reform

Since even before Medicare was passed in 1965 its been a source of frustration and intense debate from The Hill to Main Street. From concierge doctors to family physicians, politicians and family gatherings, health care reform is still a tough subject to grasp.

While Andy Griffith is currently appearing in television ads explaining Medicare changes to seniors, and the White House is praising its upcoming health care overhaul, the facts of how Medicare will change still remain a bit fuzzy.

1965. A lot of good things came out that year, like Medicare. This year, like always, we’ll have our guaranteed benefits and, with the new health care law, more good things are coming. Free checkups. Lower prescription costs and better ways to protect us and Medicare from fraud. See what else is new. I think you’re gonna like it, says Andy Griffith in his new TV ad. (Time.com) Seems to be pretty simply and explanatory, right? In reality, its a little more complicated.

Time.com states that Medicare Advantage, will in fact be greatly affected by health care reform, causing many seniors who have Medicare Advantage plans to lose fringe benefits that are not required by law. According to the Wall Street Journal, dozens of Medicare Advantage providers plan to cut back vision, dental and prescription benefits. Some plans are eliminating free teeth cleanings and gym memberships, and raising fees for hearing aids, eye glasses and emergency-room visits.

Medicare Advantage plans will take the biggest hit when the health care overhaul starts to take effect next month, mainly because Medicare Advantage plans are privately run plans that offer additional benefits beyond traditional Medicare. Obamas health care overhaul cuts to Medicare Advantage will open up the doors for 30 million Americans who currently dont have health insurance c overage. By taking some funding away from Medicare Advantage, money can be put towards those 30 million uninsured.

Democrats say the payment cuts are fair because Medicare overpays private insurers to run the plans. The government now pays private insurance companies an average of 9% more to operate the plans than it costs the government to run traditional Medicare, according to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, an independent congressional agency. That allows insurers to offer richer benefits to enrollees. (Wall Street Journal Online)

As for standard Medicare plans, they will not change, a common misconception among seniors according to Time.com. In a July poll, 50% of seniors believed health care reform would cut benefits that were previously provided to all people on Medicare, and that Medicare patients will have to spend more out of their own pocket. The reality is that while Medicare Advantage will change dramatically, standard Medicare will not, according to Time.com.

The law requires Medicare to pay 100% of preventive care, which includes checkups. The law will also gradually close the Medicare prescription drug gap known as the doughnut hole.

Denver Home Health Care And The Recuperating Senior

For those with aging loved ones in Denver, Colorado, you may be in a situation where a parent or elder has been living at home, but suddenly has a medical condition, such as a heart attack or a stroke, from which he or she needs time at home for recuperation. Many seniors who have their own homes wish to remain in them for as long as possible as they age, but this can be dangerous if they need special care during times of ill health. If family is in Denver, they are often a primary source of the care needed, but if the family resides out of state, or if the local family needs a bit of time to rest and take care of themselves, it makes sense to utilize the services of a Denver home health care provider.

A Denver home caregiver can give as much or as little care as needed in order to ensure that your parent is taken care of well. For those who need help with tasks around the house, a Denver home health aid can offer meal planning, as well as meal preparation and cleanup, light housekeeping, help with laundry, dusting and tidying, changing bed linens, and vacuuming. For elders who cannot drive safely, a Denver home caregiver can drive them to and from appointments and run errands.

Making sure an elderly parent has the companionship he or she needs is also vital to ensuring that they are in good health. A Denver home companion can provide this service in a variety of ways. Denver home health care services can provide a Denver home health aid that will escort your parent to meals or to religious services. The Denver home companion can also help your parent or elder with letter writing tasks and accompany him or her to friends or medical services. If your parent likes to play cards or other types of games, the Denver elderly home care aid can also play games with him or her and provide the companionship that we all need to feel loved and comfortable in our surroundings.

Sometimes, especially at the beginning of a recuperation period from a serious medical illness, more care is needed by the elder, and this can also be provided by Denver elderly home care service providers. Nurses from Denver home health care services can provide hourly care or even live-in day and night care as needed by your parent. Denver elderly home care can also include night supervision, personal care, hair care, oral hygiene care, skin care, incontinency care, help with walking, dressing and grooming assistance, bed positioning, exercise assistance, and general care and supervision. Reminders about when to take medications can also be handled by your Denver elderly home care provider.

Health Care For Canadian Entrepreneurs The Most Sensible Option Is A Best Kept Secret

The Shocking Truth is that you will only realize 70% of the value of a traditional health plan.

The reality is that for the small businesses (especially the sole owner type), monthly health benefit plans are designed to yield around 30% in profit for the Providers when it comes to routine health care expenses. On average, for a small business, you will only get out 70% of the premiums you put in – the traditional monthly plans are designed that way. And, if you claim more in one year, your premiums or limitations will normally increase to maintain that 70/30 ratio.

A Health Spending Account is a great alternative for entrepreneurs.

In contrast, a Health Spending Account (HSA) is far more cost effective for these routine health care expenses, without the artificial percentage and coverage limitations imposed by the insurance carriers. For example, most monthly health plans cover 80% for routine cleaning, up to a fixed annual limit per person. HSA’s have no percentage limits imposed – 100% is covered.

Monthly health plans typically cover only certain services. Few monthly plans cover things like glasses, massage therapy, orthotics, contacts, laser eye surgery, etc. A Health Spending Account allow entrepreneurs’ and their dependents to gain access to a full spectrum of health care services.

The final good news is that Revenue Canada (CRA) allows incorporated Canadian businesses to write-off 100% of the costs of a Health Spending Account, and all claim reimbursements to employees (and dependents) are completely tax-free.

Is it any wonder that today the majority of small Canadian incorporated businesses are now looking at a Health Spending Account, as either their primary, or secondary form of health coverage.

The bottom-line is that it is more economical to cover the routine costs, and the broader range of health care services through a Health Spending Account. In these situations, the monthly benefits plans are more restrictive, more costly and far less flexible.

Emerging Healthcare Sector In India

Healthcare sector is India’s one of largest sector which comprises of an extensive network of hospitals, medical or healthcare institutes and other medical services. Initially the healthcare sector in India remained in public domain but now many private players are also playing significant role in health-based services.

Raising the consciousness towards nutrition in India, maintaining public health and improving the standard of living of the Indian people are some of the main responsibilities of the State and Centre government in India. A large number of government hospitals that provide healthcare facilities at subsidized rate are operating in different states in India. These hospitals are set up with an aim to provide adequate medical facilities to both a patient living poverty line as well to another prosperous patient.

Primary healthcare in India is provided by the city and district hospitals and rural healthcare centers. Very often, these medical centers provide healthcare facilities free of cost. There are special provisions to handle grave healthcare issues such as malnutrition, immunization against various deadly diseases, pregnancy, child birth and postnatal care.

In the recent times, India has witnessed major success in eradicating mass famines, however the country still suffers from serious problems of malnutrition and lack of health consciousness among Indian people. Improper sanitation facilities and inadequate water supply are few other problems which are adversely affecting healthcare in India.

Fortunately, despite of all these perennial problems, the healthcare sector in India is growing at a rapid pace. In 2007, the healthcare market in India was estimated was estimated at US $35 billion. It is expected that the healthcare sector in India will double and reach US $70 billion by 2012. Rising income levels and a growing elderly population are some of the factors augmenting growth of healthcare sector in India.

India has also carved a niche for itself as an excellent medical tourism destination in the past few years. Every year thousands of international visitors come to India to get adequate medical treatment in India. Some of the most common treatments are heart surgery, knee transplant, cosmetic surgery and dental surgery. In order to remain competitive, healthcare providers in India are looking at improving their operational efficiency and are providing value added medical experience to patients.

Drink Beer – Stay Healthy

Because of the infamous beer belly which beer might cause, the drink has been perceived as bad-for-you beverage. However, numerous studies are pointing to the fact that beer might actually have many health benefits – hip hip hooray! Of course these health benefits could be achieved only through moderate drinking, because otherwise the overconsumption of beer (or any other alcoholic beverage for that matter) might cause liver damage, heart problems or even make you fat. In this article you can find what are some of the potential health benefits of your favourite drink.

Stronger Bones

There are high levels of silicon found in beer and they are directly linked to bone health. A study carried in 2009 proved that elderly men and women who drank a drink or two a day had higher bone density, especially those who chose wine or beer as their drink. However, drinking more than two drinks a day actually increase the likelihood of getting a bone fracture if you fall. The type of ale you consume is also important and in this case it is best if you drink pale beer, because it is the richest in silicon.

Healthier Kidneys

I don’t know about you, but if I drink even just one beer, almost instantly I get the urge to go to the toilet. And even though it is slightly annoying at times, it can be good for the kidneys. Beer is nearly 90% water and it can keep you hydrated, thus making your kidneys work. As a consequence, it can reduce the likelihood of developing kidney stones by 40%.

Beer Could Also Be Nutritious

Because it is made of hops, wheat and barley, beer has the same nutrients as grains do, including Vitamin B, zinc, riboflavin, niacin, etc. A bottle of beer could also contain potassium, phosphorous and calcium – minerals that are essential for a healthy diet. Moreover, it has been found that the beverage contains antioxidants too and it can keep your blood pressure and cholesterol in norm. However, don’t rely on beer to solely keep you healthy. Don’t forget that regular exercising will actually keep the beer belly away, so jogging, walking or even cleaning, as suggested by move out cleaning experts in Melbourne, are all important if you want to remain healthy.

Live Longer

Due to the lower rates of heart diseases, strokes and diabetes, it could be said that moderate drinkers could live longer. Moreover, the life expectancy could increase by up to two years if people can avoid imbibing.

But, once again, let me remind you – these benefits could be enjoyed only if you drink responsibly. Most experts suggest women to drink one beer a day, while men can have two.
